Inclusions refer to any solid or liquid exogenous impurities that exist above the liquidus temperature.

The harmful effects of inclusions on the properties of aluminum alloy are:
Reduce the mechanical properties of the alloy, especially the fatigue performance, impact toughness and elongation;
Reduce the fluidity and cutting performance of the melt;
Promote the casting to crack during processing, and make the casting foam during heat treatment.

The inclusions in the melt should be removed by refining, filtering and other methods.

  1. Use gas or refining agentfor deslagging and degassing.

The slag removal and degassing of the aluminum alloy flame are complementary to each other. The less slag inclusions, the less gas content in the melt. Use inert gas or refining agent to float gas and inclusions to achieve the purpose of removal. The gases used in general refining include: chlorine, nitrogen, argon, and mixed gases.

The mechanism of using gas refining is: the used gas can react with hydrogen or aluminum to form bubbles, and the hydrogen dissolved in the aluminum liquid diffuses into the bubbles according to the law of partial pressure, and discharges the melt as the bubbles rise. At the same time, during the floating process of the bubble, the non-metallic inclusions in contact are adsorbed to the surface of the bubble according to the principle of flotation. As the bubbles float to the surface of the melt, so as to achieve the purpose of removing gas and inclusions.
